Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

"Education for Sustainable Development stands for education that enables people to think and act in a sustainable way.

  • How do my decisions affect people of future generations or in other parts of the world?
  • What impact does it have, for example, how I consume, which means of transport I use or which and how much energy I consume?

"Education for sustainable development enables each and every individual to understand the impact of their own actions on the world and to make responsible decisions. (National Action Plan Education for Sustainable Development)

Scientists have developed various competence models for ESD, for example, according to de Haan (2008) it is about teaching design competence. For more details on design competence, this website is recommended.

Projects:

"Learning. Act. Shaping the future together. Education for Sustainable Development"
The year 2023 marked the launch of the new campaign of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), which aims to make Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and its actors even more visible.

The aim of this campaign is to recognise the numerous actors who have long been committed to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and to promote exchange between them. In this way, the structural anchoring of ESD in all areas of education and thus the implementation of the National Action Plan on ESD (NAP BNE) is to be further advanced and the ESD network expanded to include more actors. In keeping with the start of the new year and the associated resolutions, the campaign aims to motivate as many people as possible to act sustainably.
